This camera was first given to me at Christmas time, and I have to say that I loved it. Although it was a bit fiddly to set up, it gave me amazing results and quality of video, to the point where I decided to buy another myself. They retail for around £120 – £160 on many sites, but if you’re lucky you might be able to catch it on a sale for less.
What you get with the Camera
- Gardepro E8 Trail Camera
- Antenna to be mounted on to the top
- Camera strap
- Free app for viewing photos and videos (iOS and Android)
- Instruction Manual
What’s not included
- Standard size SD Card (ideally 32/64GB)
- 8x AA batteries
Using The App
I’m often sceptical of the quality of apps which are designed to accompany products, but this one didn’t disappoint me. It is available and free to install on both Android and iOS, and certainly appears professionally made. I also like how you are able to view all your Gardepro cameras via the same app which is definitely useful, especially if you want to upgrade to to a higher model.
Whenever you enter the app, you have to connect to your camera, which it does through creating it’s own Wi-Fi network. You can also create a password which anyone attempting to access your camera would have to enter. Once connected you can view a live feed from your camera or check in on any photos/videos it has taken.
The camera is also very versatile, as you can change its operating times, video length, photo quality more in the app. This may feel confusing at first, but it can be useful depending on what you want to use your camera for.
Positioning the Camera
The E8 is waterproof and can handle extreme weather without needing to be taken inside. However, it could be blown away by strong winds if it is not firmly positioned/strapped on. The strap is intended to be strapped on to large poles such as tree trunks, and therefore is not practical for thinner branches, which can prove quite annoying.
Camera Quality
The E8 takes amazing photos at day and night, with a quality of 64MP (megapixels). It also takes good quality 1080P videos, with a 0.1 second delay trigger. It has everything that could be needed in terms of quality, and deserves a lot more recognition than it has.
Overall Impression
Although a few negatives, this is a good quality and relatively cheap option for anyone choosing to purchase a camera trap.
App & Usability
The app works well, but it can be annoying reconnecting all the time. My opinion: 4 and a half stars.
Camera Practicality
The E8 is a very robust camera, but the strap is annoying to use. A solid 4 stars.
Photo & Video Quality
I love how it can take photos and film at both day and night. It has a good range, and produce amazing photos. Definitely 5 stars.
